The 2013 POCD had a paragraph on Page 14 which reads as follows:
Sherman does not exist in isolation from the larger forces affecting the environment of our planet.
Global climate change is happening all around us and our essential planning guidelines must reflect this reality.
The use of non-fossil fuels for homeowners’ electric and heating need, the availability of tax credits to foster installation of solar and geothermal alternatives and any new technologies should be encouraged.
Given that over the last 10 years, the effects of global climate change have become much more obvious, we believe the 2023 POCD must acknowledge Sherman’s responsibility to help mitigate climate change.
